THE JOLLY GARDENERS

PUB

DINING ROOMS

Hi everyone - welcome to the Jolly Gardeners website!

We’re Ben and Joe Wright, brothers from Chester. We also run Porta Tapas on Northgate Street (and previously, Joseph Benjamin Restaurant). We’re really excited to have taken over the Gardeners Arms.

Scaffolding is up and we’ve just started a pretty significant refurbishment that will take a few months. We’ve got some roofs and floors to replace, leaded windows to restore, kitchens to install, and convert the upstairs (previously manager’s quarters) into extra pub space and dining rooms. The rooms upstairs are fantastic—spacious, high-ceilinged, with lovely leaded windows overlooking Sandy Lane.

We’re bringing back the name “The Jolly Gardeners,” (a pub of this name was on this site in the late 1800’s). The pub name points to the area’s history as a market garden hub, and hopefully a good omen for some amazing kitchen ingredients!

Our aim is to make it a true local pub, with quality beer, food from local suppliers, and a small but superb wine list.

We’re excited to create a space where you can pop in for a quiet pint or bring family for a meal. We’re hoping to welcome you this June. In the meantime, we’re putting together a crack team to look after this great little pub.

Exciting times!

Cheers,
Ben & Joe
